Thank you for your interest in supporting our community by volunteering. Below are the current volunteer opportunities along with instructions on how to volunteer for them.
The Ravenwood Music Festival was a great success. Thank you to the terrific volunteers helped make sure it was.
Thank you to the group that came out.
Thank you to everyone that volunteered. It looks like we have enough.
The amateur radio community's reputation has put us in the sights of the Sherwood Park Highland Gathering and they seeked us out to help with their event. The highland gathering will be held at Sherwood Park's Broadmoor Lake Park.on Saturday July 19th and Sunday July 20th 2025. We will be dong a few things at the highland gathering.
Managing the volunteer parking located at Salisbury Composite High School.
Managing traffic between the volunteer parking and the event area
Tracking weather and activities in the area as part of threat/risk management.
Providing on site communications and net control.
This will be our first year with this event so there are many unknowns that are sure to make our job "exciting". As part of your volunteering you will (I've asked for them) receive a volunteer t-shirt and a meal for your shift. The Sherwood Park Highland Gathering organizers are very keen to have us as part of their event.
There may be a Friday shift as well and we will let you know if additional help is needed for that.

Ham ops needed for horse (equestrian) event, Labour Day weekend
I’m looking for ham operators to provide safety communications for an equestrian event near Sundre Alberta, Labour Day weekend Aug. 29 – Aug31.
The course is a 25-mile cross-country loop. Ham operators provide safety communications and tracking along the route. I need 3 to 8 operators, one at the base, the others spread along the course. Four-by-four vehicles are an asset, as are ATVs and UTVs, but most locations are accessible by car.
The ride is called the Wild Timber Competitive Trail Ride. It takes place Aug. 29 – Aug 31 (Friday to Sunday), with the actual ride on Saturday. Base is southwest of Sundre, north west of Calgary
The event provides free camping at the base location from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning. Accommodations is an open field, you supply tent, trailer, whatever you want or have. Portapotties are supplied.
Meals for volunteers are intended to be supplied, from Friday night until Saturday night, but at the moment can't be promised. They will have some potable water, but best to bring your own beverages of choice.
There is a ride briefing for riders on Friday night. Very useful for the hams, especially if you haven’t worked an equestrian event before, but not mandatory. The actual ride takes place on Saturday. You can stay Saturday night, and head home Sunday.
If interested, and/or want more information, contact me.

The Edmonton Toy Run has been making a difference in the lives of children since 1984. Traditionally two radio groups, NARC and the Sherwood Park Radio Club (SPRC), have suported this event with NARC providing coverage along the route and SPRC managing the pre race staging area. At this time, it seems only SPRC is engaged and will be providing assistance at the staging area (Blackjacks Roadhouse in Nisku).
The route starts at Blackjacks Roadhouse in Nisku with riders arriving between 9:00AM and 10:45AM. Santa then leads the ride to the Edmonton Inn and Conference Centre on Kingsway at 11:00AM. It's an impressive (and loud) drone as hundreds for motorcycles, trikes, etc. leave the staging area.
