Ham ops needed for horse event, 12–14 June weekend, near Calgary
I’m looking for ham operators to provide safety communications for an equestrian event near Calgary Alberta, 12–14 June weekend.
The course is a 25-mile cross-country loop. Ham operators provide safety communications and tracking along the route. I need 3 to 8 operators, one at the base, the others spread along the course. Offroad capable 4x4 vehicles are very much wanted, but I can find locations for hams with cars. Several positions are 2-5 km hike-in with handheld radios.
The ride is called the Mount Up in the Mountains. It takes place 12–14 June (Friday to Sunday), with the actual ride on Saturday. Base is 55 km north west of Calgary, south Benchlands, off the Forestry Trunk Road and TransAlta Road.
The event provides free camping at the base location from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning. Accommodations is an open field, you supply tent, trailer, whatever you want or have. Portapotties are supplied. Family members and dogs are welcome too (dogs must be on leash at all times).
Unfortunately, due to budget constraints, meals for volunteers are not supplied. There will be potable water, but best to bring your own beverages of choice.
There is a ride briefing for riders on Friday night. Very useful for the hams, but not mandatory. The actual ride takes place on Saturday. You can stay Saturday night, and head home Sunday.
If interested, and/or want more information, contact me.

Cold Lake Air Show July 18 -19th Weekend
Free camping is available at "Mike's Farm". This is just an open field Map that you can camp in. Bring your own power (to recharge your radio), water, food, and facilities. It is about 20 minutes away from Cold Lake. Or you can make arrangements for a hotel room in Cold Lake on your own dime. Volunteers will get in free, but family members who wish to attend must purchase a ticket.
The Ham Radio responsibilities will be to observe and report problems on the VHF Simplex Net. Net Control will pass information to the Military Command Post and the military will look after any problems that we report. We will be watching the perimeter of a safety keep out zone, watching for traffic problems on the approaching highways, and disorderly conduct in the crowd, and lost people.
Gear for the show: HT, spare battery, a refillable personal water bottle, Sun hat, sun screen, chair, note pad.
Participants will get a T-Shirt, Ball Cap, and a Lunch each day.

This is our largest fund raiser for the club.
It takes a lot of volunteers to operate a casino so we need all hands on deck for this.
Volunteers will get refreshments, a meal, and that good feeling of helping out.
